Leading Change
To lead change I have:

Founded a new school as Principal from paddock to a proud place of learning

Developed an inclusive school culture - mission, vision, values, and beliefs

Established a Charter with strategic goals aligned to the community and school needs

Designed a new school logos, websites and uniform
-
Developed effective community consultation and opportunities for whānau to help shape the school and to be involved in their tamariki’s education

Designed, planned and lead projects to rejuvenate school site and facilities (including a new admin/collaborative spaces, remodeled classrooms, pool, harcourt, gardens and landscaping)

Planned and developed the implementation of Ka Hikitia and the development of Māori achieving success as Māori (including a Culturally Responsive Plan)

Lead identification of professional development needs from student achievement data

Designed and implemented a new appraisal system to inspire teachers to be more effective and reflective in their practice

Developed systems to ensure assessment data informs teaching and learning programmes

Identified, planned and directed resources to improve teaching and learning

Led staff in professional development relating to current pedagogy, collaborative practices, effective ICT’s, and ensured staff are up to date with latest developments and research in education

Implemented SMS systems into schools, including the training and development with the staff

Developing School Culture
I have effectively built and maintained a positive and inclusive school culture because I have:

Designed, developed a new school vision and values

Identified school strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for a significant culture change

Led the school-wide development of the school curriculum (including values)

Ensured the school values are the pulse of the school - developed a new motto ‘Dig Deep’ with logo including whakatauki from the local Rūnanga

Met regularly with Māori and Pasifika families to develop a culturally responsive plan with the staff

Rebranded the school uniform, signage and classrooms
-
Rejuvenated and designed new school rewards to promote the school values
-
Led the implementation of a leadership programme. This includes training and mentoring of the senior pupils to model and promote the school values

Created a professional, fun and positive staff culture in two schools
-
Effectively led a team of 11 that strongly promotes student achievement
-
Grown leadership opportunities within the team and designed an effective induction programme
-
Developed and maintained positive relationships with staff, parents, and the community
-
Introduced and led the school in environmental education (Enviroschools started 2014)
-
Included Asia readiness and Mandarin as a language and cultural
-
Introduced the ‘wooden spoon’ – for a laugh amongst staff for those ‘Minties' moments.
